We are Adam and Stacy Surfus, we’ve spent years dreaming of adoption and are pursuing domestic infant adoption!
We’ve both felt called to adoption from a young age. We want to provide a loving home for a baby or twins who need it and also love on a birth family with the love of Jesus. We want to support a woman choosing life who feels she is unable to give her baby the life she wants for him or her. Our hope is that the birth family will want to be in relationship with us and our future babe(s) with a semi-open to open adoption. Sharing and supporting the babe(s) as they grow to know that where they came from is to be cherished and celebrated.

FUNDRAISING UPDATE!
1/2/2024
WE ARE FULLY FUNDED!!!!! You guys!!!!! It is crazy awesome!!! Thank you so much for all of your generosity, your prayers, your help with our fundraiser, supporting the Race for the Orphans grant, and all of the things!!!! We are overwhelmed with your support and kindness and how much each of you cares for our family and our journey to adopt.
This month we start the renewal process of our home study, so we’ll be getting fingerprinted again and have a bunch of background checks as well as getting a physical. All the things that will tell a judge that we are safe humans and fit enough to be parents. The home study has to be renewed every year until the adoption is finalized.

We are super close to our 55K Goal! People have generously contributed $50,842!!! The funds we received from the Race for Orphans 5k helped us reach this amount, we were given $5,000 from the funds raised at that event! We are now just a little over $4,000 from our funding goal.
We are being presented to Moms that are considering adoption regularly, so we could get a call at any moment saying we’re matched. We’re so looking forward to the day we get to make that announcement!
WE ARE ACTIVE!!!!!!!!

We made our final payment to the adoption agency and that moved our status to ACTIVE!!!! That means that we are currently being shown to mom’s considering adoption for their babies! WHOOOO HOOOOO!!!!!!! Please be praying for all of the mom’s considering adoption for their babies as that is a HUGE decision and one that should be guided by peace and wisdom. We are so humbled that we could be the answer to her prayers as much as she is the answer to ours. Be praying for peace as we prepare for the call that could match us with a potential birthmom at any moment from here on out for the next two years!

We are still raising funds, we have $15,755 left to raise to be fully funded based on our estimated budget! Thank you so much for all of your incredible blessings! We will find out soon how much the Race for the Orphans 5K grant will be giving us! Thank you to all who came out and walked/ran with us!

Our wonderful home study provider, Wendy, is the one holding the sign! We are officially approved to legally adopt in Georgia! Next, we’ll give the completed home study to our adoption agency, Lifetime Adoption, so they know we are good to move forward legally once we’re matched with a birth mom. The home study will be a huge part of finalizing the adoption about 6 months after the baby is placed in our home. The Judge will read and consider it when making the adoption official on our future babies’ gotcha day!

We are thankful to be done with our part of the home study! Our HS provider is working on writing it now and will return it to us within a week. Next, we’ll give it to our adoption agency and they will confirm we have all we need to move forward. For the next several days, we’ll be getting ready for our first official fundraising event on Friday, March 31st (see details above). Then we’ll begin working on putting together our profiles that Moms who are considering adoption will see when they are choosing the potential adopting parents.

02/20/23
We have researched and chosen an adoption agency called Lifetime Adoption. We’ve completed the initial paperwork and training with them. Next, we’ll work on creating an adoption profile that will be printed and a web page and video geared toward birth moms. So we’ll be taking lots of photos and videos! We are 44% of the way through their checklists toward being an active couple.
We are working with Georgia Adoption Specialist to complete our home study, which is the process that makes us legally able to adopt. So far we’ve been fingerprinted, had our well and septic tank inspected, completed several background checks, gathered and submitted vital documents, and had the first of three interviews with our social worker. Next, we will have an extensive physical, write out our biographies, submit our financial information, do one on one interviews, and have our home walk-through.
Once all of the home study requirements have been fulfilled, our social worker will review everything we’ve submitted and will write a packet that will be given to Lifetime and presented to the judge during the finalization of our adoption. Finalization happens about 6 months after our future babe(s) come home.
Once we’ve completed our home study & our printed and online profile, and have paid our last payment to Lifetime, we will become an active family. This means they will start showing our profiles to birth moms! This part of the process will need to happen by May 17th!
